Our lab values…
Scientific Rigor. We conduct rigorous, high-quality science that is as open as possible. We are methodologically creative, hypothesis-driven, and thoughtful.
Transparency & reproducibility. We routinely engage in open science practices, including the pre-registration of analysis plans and sharing of experimental materials and code for reproducing analyses.
Kindness & generosity. We treat others with respect and help one another learn, without judgement. We appreciate others’ effort, time, and boundaries.
Inclusion. We believe that anyone who aspires to do science should be able to do science. We aim to foster a judgment-free space where science is accessible to all. We encourage everyone to participate and value diverse ideas and perspectives. We emphasise continual learning and growing over perfectionism.

At the centre of the logo, the brain reflects our passion for developmental cognitive neuroscience and our curiosity about how brains develop and function. The sun symbolises our commitment to kindness and generosity, the open sky reflects our value of transparency and reproducibility, and the rainbow represents our dedication to inclusion. The clouds and rain reference Partly Cloudy, a short Pixar movie that we use in our fMRI studies; they are also a nod to our location in Edinburgh.
